This lesson plan is based on the book Rainbow Crow retold by Nancy Van Laan and illustrated by Beatriz Vidal.  You can get it for just $7 on Amazon or for free online.  It is a legend of the Lenape tribe, originally from the northeastern part of what is now The United States.

This book has been used as a theme for class many times.  It is something that always catches student’s interest, empathy and imagination. After reading the book, practice poses that correlate with the various characters and talk about Crow’s sacrifice.  It is a wonderful opportunity to explain to students the concept of karma Yoga and santosha (contentment).

This is an energizing and stabilizing practice best suited for older students with some experience. However, it has been used with children as young as six years old.
